Objectives

The purpose of the workshop is to train employees of the Air Quality Laboratories in India and decision-makers within environmental authorities (MoE) to exercise the government’s control function concerning the necessary emission measurements in connection with the incineration of waste substances in special waste disposal facilities, cement rotary kilns and other types of combustion plants.

Expected results/impacts

The target of the workshop is to introduce a sustainable monitoring of emissions from incineration facilities in connection with test burns in India. Such a monitoring is an inevitable prerequisite for the disposal of hazardous waste. The workshop should support is to to show the establishment of a necessary capacities and expertise in this field.

It is noteworthy that the measurement techniques can also be applied to other industrial facilities (e.g. power plants) which are generating stack gases during combustion processes.

To learn how to plan and execute a test burn of hazardous chemicals in a waste incineration facility and, how to monitor the stack gases for the evaluation of the quality of an incineration facility for an environmentally sound of hazardous waste disposal.
