Sustainable Industrial Development (SID)
The objective of programs and activities under this thrust area is to improve environment and resource management (including hazardous waste) of industrial estates and industrial clusters.
The services provided include
- Planning and development of Eco-Industrial Estates as model industrial zones, implemented in the existing industrial estates of IDA Nacharam and IDA Mallapur near Hyderabad and the upcoming SEZ at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh
- Supporting responsible institutions for the planning, construction and operation of the requisite infrastructure in the state of Karnataka
- Survey and assessment of contaminated sites to provide the basis for reclamation strategies that can be used as models for other areas
- Electronic waste (eWaste) management under the Indo-German-Swiss eWaste Initiative
- Development of state-of-the-art laboratories and capacity building of the involved staff for monitoring and analysis of parameters such as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
- Improving environmental and resource management by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in industrial clusters by integrating environmental friendly production methods into production processes
- Industrial (chemical) Disaster Risk Management in cooperation with the Disaster Management Institute, Bhopal (DMI), InWEnt - Capacity Building International, Germany and the National Disaster Management Authoriy, Delhi NDMA
